I don't see how this is still only at 45 knots:

All four of the 12Z hurricane models now strengthen Don through DMAX of early Sunday morning. That's a full 36 hours from now. They're all stronger than recent runs and the HMON is the strongest run yet for it as of that time.

I am in no way a professional. Take what I say with a grain of salt as I could be totally wrong. Please refer to the NHC, NWS, or SPC for official information.

He is approaching his own wake and will be crossing it tonight. I wonder if reduced SSTs from that will lead to weakening through tonight. Opinions?

I love how Don has gone from an "Ugly garbage single day TS" to being a long lived fighter of a storm with a beautiful structure. It completely defied expectations. I always enjoy when storms do that, provided they stay OTS of course

This drop of 4 mb from 1002 to 998 is the first change in the pressure by the NHC since way back at 11PM EDT Wednesday night. It had been stuck at 1002 mb for 36 hours.

Don will be moving over the slightly warmer waters of the Gulf stream later
tonight and Saturday which could result in some slight
strengthening.

Great point! Couple days ago I gave it half a glance, laughed about yet another "wasted name" and here we have a bonified (and strong) TS. Wouldn't shock me if Don briefly touched hurricane intensity - we may never know.
