A dropsonde recorded 60kt winds at the surface. So, let's stop saying this isn't at least a 70mph storm, shall we?

Anyways, there is still some brief time for it to jump to a hurricane, but it's running out of time. Either way, it's gusty squalls coming in to the coast.

A station on Fort Morgan has reported sustained winds of 47 kt (54 mph) gusting to 55 kt (63 mph). The station is on land with an anemometer 38.2 meters above sea level.

Dropsondes aren't able to measure 1-min average winds. Actual NWS surface stations are more reliable. Dauphin Island has gone through Gordon's heavier squalls.
