That is so incredibly amazing yet creepy. Can't say I have ever followed a webcam in the eye of a hurricane before. I really hope someone is recording or archiving that feed right now.

Colors of lost purpose on the canvas of irrelevance

Not a meteorologist, in fact more of an idiot than anything. You should probably check with the NHC or a local NWS office for official information.

Wow that really is eerie. And to think there's so much more of that chaos coming...

From BWS's facebook page:

Upper air data peek... 11200ft 625mb 150 deg 08kt
.... looks like the eye of a hurricane!

BWS has managed to successfully release a 00z balloon in the eye of now Cat 2 Hurricane Gonzalo, after the first attempt taken out by downdrafts & trees. We are looking forward to the data in the middle of this historic hurricane

It has been rather intense these last several hours... we are trying to keep our spirits up and it helps to sprinkle in a moment of release, just at the same time Gonzalo is doing the same thing - humor and music can do that...

Even though I'd read several accounts over the years about how quickly the winds can increase with the passage of the eye, it's still unbelievable how quickly conditions have deteriorated from practically dead calm to full court press! Good grief!

That airport data makes for a current pressure of 952mb. Very slight filling.

When was the last time a storm made a direct landfall over Bermuda? I know Fabian was just west of the island.

Is it possible? Port Bermuda (where the webcam is) is pretty much full blown back in the eye-wall but the airport at Hamilton is not (yet)?

Yes, the airport is on the far northeast side of the islands, and the webcam is on the opposite/western coast.

Typical of many northward moving"landfalling" hurricanes at or north of latitude 30, especially late in the season, there is very little rain on the south side at all. As the poster has experienced himself while intercepting some hurricanes on the Gulf Coast or N. Carolina, after a brief backside blast, the torrential rains end quickly and very little rain occurs on the back (south) side at all. Current radar indicates that very thing with Gonzalo.

Yes, thanks for pointing that out. :) I did know that, but the distance between the two is so small it's just really incredible to see this actually happening. We are certainly getting a lot of incredible data, so much of which can be used to illustrate a classic hurricane.
