The epicentral location is on the Calaveras Fault in Hall's Valley which is a rift valley located between the front ridge of the Diablo Range and the second which has Mt. Hamilton the home of Lick Observatory. The road to the observatory goes through the valley which is now a State Preserve and has a visitor's center just off the road. On the west side of the front ridge lies the interconnected short strands of the Hayward Fault complex which consolidates near Fremont.

I've seen pictures of actual fault displacement on the Hayward Fault somewhere in the East Bay, maybe near Hayward or Fremont, where the fault is slipping.

Supposedly, rumor, anyway, where the fault is locked, by Berkeley, runs right through the football stadium, and when it ruptures, displacement will be visible on the field.

Looked at Google- indeed, in Hayward.

View of an offset curb at the southwest corner of Prospect Street and Rose Street north of downtown Hayward. The displacement of the curb is consistent with the relative right-lateral displacement of the Hayward Fault.
