Where is the best place to look for future weather? For example, if you live on the U.S. east coast would the systems in the Pacific indicate the weather for a few weeks ahead? Since the winds are southwesterly, would systems in that direction be possible indicators?

Well, that's definately not an easy question to answer.

As for systems a few weeks ahead... that really cannot be done with any confidence. However, for large scale systems (i.e. fronts, migratory lows, etc), looking "upstream" is always best.

"Upstream" refers to the direction where the predominate wind is coming from. In the mid-latitudes (such as the US), looking toward the west is considered upstream. As for the low-latitudes (such as the Caribbean), looking toward the east is considered upstream.
