This webpage used to keep an archive of SSTs and anomalies: https://www.ospo.noaa.gov/Products/ocean/sst/anomaly/. It was highly useful. When they switched to 5km resolution, the option to see previous months and years went away. I can't even see data from last week on that page, let alone SST animations. I can still access SST anomaly data from 1996-early 2020 (and access the data from other sources, but that is much less convenient), but the 50km raw SST data prior to 2020 is now no longer archived on the site-only the anomalies. In addition, some dates of data are simply no longer accessible from the old anomaly archive. I can only see the anomalies for that time period, not the raw temperatures. Unless I am missing something, a huge functionality of the page has been removed. In addition, I can no longer view the interesting commentaries made by meteorologists in the 90s (such as during the 1997 El Nino). I could view them until early 2020.
