The Dark Side
To confrim the seriousness of this situation,the following has just been
made availble to me,by the internet security consultants that we have
under contract.
First,I would like to say that the actions of Ticka and wrkh99 is at the
very least a stimulus for further attacks.The scenario is simple.#1 They
are directly behind the hacks and DOS attacks (they did it
themselves).#2 They have paid for or had someone do this intrusions.#3
Their instigating and childish behavior is influencing others who know
how to hack and run script kiddies for DOS attacks.They can launch
attacks out having a grudge or just for fun,since they think we will
blame Ticka and /or wrkh99.
I was leaning in the direction of #3 even though Ticka's IP has been
implicated in multiple attempts of accessing forbidden areas on Storm2k
and as well as Martinsville Weather's forums,it is a much different
thing to hack into a server or to launch a DOS attack like the one
against this server,I am putting #1 at the back of the list.Today I am
leaning towards #2 and that is based of the following information I have
obtained today:
It has come to my attention that there is now a wide list of
hacker-for-hire (for the little guy against the little guy)clubs popping
up all over the place.They seem to be on mouth to mouth type of
advertisment,as you must be no farther than 3 levels from the source
itself.
For as little as $10 they will run a DOS attack on any server not
connected to a commerical website aka microsoft
For $100 they can use all the bandwidth that I have to run close to 600
servers that are transmitting data from the Human Genome Project!!
So if someone has a grudge and a little cash they can cause a lot of
damage in a short period of time.What is good in a way is the hackers
want the money and they know if they prolong the take down of a
server,they will get more money from the party that is paying them.This
in turn lets us find ways to protect ourselves from an attack.
Here is an article about a website that I have donated money to and at
this time trying help them as best as I can so they can keep doing the
great work they do.This website is 40000 members strong and they have
just developed a Program called Fortress that would prevent 99% of all
hacks, and some high power DOS attack for occuring.This program also
offers industry leading ways to ban all offenders from sites and servers
even on a dial up account!
This is an example of how DOS attacks have cause enough damage put this
40000 member site in jeporady of shutting down.They most up time they
have had in the last 2 months has 200 hours! They no longer can sustain
the costs of the bandwidth in association with these attacks.
Remember this website is dedicated in security related matters and are
consider leaders in the field.If this is happening to them,then just
think about what can happen to us:

We're working on getting more servers and dedicated circuits, but we're
finding out this is starting to cost beyond our reach. Both Computer
Cops and Nuke Cops are growing so large so fast, that the script kiddies
running DDoS attacks on us and the popularity brought on by our
registered members is taking us into realms that cost a lot to stay
alive.
I'm basically putting out a notice to everyone, that unless I can get
some sort of serious funding to continue operating then these may be the
final days of the sites being in operation. The bad guys are hitting us
the only way they can... in the wallet. It'd break my heart to see this
place go away because growth has gone far beyond the funding at hand.
Our host told us the attack initiated on Nuke Cops, switched to Computer
Cops, and went back to Nuke Cops. As of noon today, we have no
additional information on the attacks. However currently, Nuke Cops has
been taken offline and will be assigned a new IP in the hopes that
attacks can be curbed for the short term. Nuke Cops recently released an
application called Fortress™ with a pre-released version of Ban On
Demand™ that protects PHP-Nuke websites from all SQL injections and bans
attacks immediately. It appears Fortress™ is such a success, that both
sites have been targetted -- at least, that is what timing appears to
be.
The attacks appear to have started sometime Saturday, we're unsure right
now. However, even though Computer Cops is currently working, we do not
know if it'll continue like this since the attackers may opt to swing
here again.
Insofar as uptime has been, please see the following 36 hour MRTG
graphs. The first is for the mysql server, the second is for the web
server. Both were taken at 8:37PM EDT.

Bottom line is they are being pushed out because the hackers are
winning.Our data center is doing everything to stop these attacks.They
are almost finished with the first ever Data center wide DOS firewall.We
have the only Firewall that includes anti-DOS this helps,but they keep
coming and coming and when that happens our server shut downs.This is a
protective measure against bandwidth overage,but not 100%
effective.Today my business partner was running our bandwidth numbers
and we had an increase of 25% when in fact the server traffic total from
all sites is down by 10%.Also this increase was adjusted for
radio.nhcwx.com.So they are having an effect in our bandwidth and in the
pocket book.
We are not going to let them win,we will do everything in our power to
stop these attacks.
Will we ever have to shut down the community servers?
Yes,once these attacks reach our bandwidth limits.That is a lot but once
it spreads into our business,it will effect hundreds of companies
working on a very noble project.
(This is what these people want and we will do everthing not to give it
to them.)
Finally I was asked why do we make this public? Why do we post this
information on a public forum?
I believe it is best not to hide things.Everyone here has been
supportive of the problems we have been having the last 6 weeks.I owe
it to you to let you know what is happening.
Also,if you reach the server and it is down please wait for 30 minutes
before you try again.The server is down most likely because it cannot
handle any more connections and when people keep refreshing the page, it
compounds the problem and keeps the server off-line longer.
By mid-week next week we will have the second server and all backup
sites ready to go.This will help a lot and it will keep you posting!

gosh i have been gone for a while, but i knew something was up when ticka, was posting on a alabama forum, and below her name was another site. this is a great site and i hope everything gets back to normal. i just cant believe she did this she was really nice to me. but i guess she has a bad side that we all never saw. thanks mod for keeping the site up.

Im sorry but after what she put me and the rest of this site thru it will be a cold day in hell before i forget about what happend. And for anyone that goes her route well then im sorry but i sure as well dont think any higher of you either (Friend or not)because your saying then that its ok what she did here to Me and other members & staff of this site. (Which btw she has yet to give a PUBLIC apology, owned up or anything else to any of us or this site.
Alot of people have known me here now for a good while (Over a year now) and knew me before this all happend and sorry but this has taken its toll on me as some may have noticed in the last few months and is why i feel the way i do about this. So sorry if i ruffled anyones feathers here for my actions here or elsewhere because thats not my intention.
I feel strongly about this site and its members because i do feel as if your all my big huge extended family and i dont like when its attacked or done wrong and will defend it to no end.
