As if we didn't have enough worries over here:

http://www.sun-sentinel.com/news/local/broward/sfl-ctrailer18may18,0,4756902.story?coll=sfla-news-broward

only TWO trailers tested with SAFE levels of formaldehyde. With well over 18,000 people in trailers around here, this is all we need to add to our worries!

Formaldehyde gas offing is a commonly occuring problem in new construction. It is the smell of a new home. It is especially prevalent in trailer construction where "affordable" products are substituted. The levels (of formaldehyde) generally decline over time. Some folks are far more susceptible than others. Given the materials used in FEMA trailers and the square footage involved.....being about the size of a large walk in closet....I don't find these test results surprising at all.

not necessarily surprising; but to the extent that they are potentially quite carcinogenic should raise a few flags--especially in that "walk-in-closet"..which I agree, they are!

I have a patient that just got out of her trailer and back into her home. She has many lung problems and had to keep her door open even with the heat due to the formaldehyde fumes

with the limited amount of real plywood available at an affordable price, even CUSTOM BUILT homes are being made with that pressboard crap. Only the million dollar homes seem to be made of real wood around here any more.
