Great idea because I wasn't sure if I could post in the other thread.

Time: 1600Z
Latitude: 15°N
Longitude: 61.5°W

Getting really close to the disturbance, I'll say in an hour or two they are inside.

Is this better than the other 99L Recon Discussion Thread?

This one is a little confusing, because they are posting the training mission and 303 hdob's in the same place.

If anyone gets the obs for 303 please post them if they are not already there.

The aircraft could find some nice winds under the main convective activity, but I don't think we will find a TD. I'm anxious for a possible center fix - it would add some definite proof to the discussion. They could discern the mean area of rotation and if it is located at the upper, middle, or lower levels. I would guess middle levels.

We must wait to see the intensity of the surface winds. Even if there is a low, if the winds doesn't reach at least 30 mph, then we don't have a depression.

That's not true - you can have a depression classified at lower wind speeds. In fact, there is no minimum...

Minimum 25 mph, because I have never seen a 10, 15, or 20 mph depression.

There is no official minimum surface windspeed criteria for a TD...but in almost every case if the pressures are low enough for a TD, you will have winds of at least 25-30 knots.

Right, certainly the storm needs to have convection and a closed circ, for which you generally need mid 20's or greater. I was just pointing out there there is no requisite minimum for classification, like there is for TS or the different Hurricane Categories.
