BOB 05/2007/01 Dated : 04th July, 2007

Sub: Depression over north Bay of Bengal

Yesterday’s well marked low pressure area over north Bay of Bengal concentrated into a depression and lay centred at 0830 hrs IST of today, the 04th July, 2007 near Lat. 22.0oN and Long 89.5oE over Bangladesh coast, about 150 km southeast of Kolkata. It is likely to move in a northwesterly direction.

Under its influence, widespread rainfall with scattered heavy to very heavy fall and isolated extremely heavy fall is likely over Gangetic West Bengal during next 48 hours. Isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is also likely over Jharkhand, north Orissa and Bihar during the same period.

Fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea during next 24 hours.

Sub: Deep depression over Gangetic West Bengal and neighbourhood

Morning’s Deep depression over Gangetic West Bengal and neighbourhood moved westwards and lay centred at 1730 hrs IST of today, the 06th July, 2007 over Jharkhand and adjoining Gangetic West Bengal near Lat. 23.0oN and Long 86.0oE close to Jamshedpur. It is likely to move in a west-northwesterly direction and weaken gradually.

Under its influence, widespread rainfall with scattered heavy to very heavy falls and isolated extremely heavy fall (>25 cms) are likely over Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and north Orissa during next 24 hours and decrease thereafter. Isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is also likely over Gangetic West Bengal, south Orissa and Bihar during the same period and decrease thereafter.

Next bulletin will be issued tomorrow morning.

Morning’s depression over north Chhattisgarh and neighbourhood moved further westward and lay centred at 1730 hours IST of today, the 07th July, 2007 over east Madhya Pradesh and adjoining Chhattisgarh near Lat. 23.5oN and Long 82.0oE about 50 kms north of Pendra over east Madhya Pradesh. It is likely to move in a west-northwesterly direction and weaken gradually.

Under its influence, widespread rainfall with scattered heavy to very heavy falls and isolated extremely heavy fall (>25 cms) are likely over Chhattisgarh during next 12 hours. Isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is also likely over Madhya Pradesh & Vidharbha during next 48 hours and heavy to very rainfall activity is likely to commence over Gujarat, Konkan & Goa including Mumbai, Madhya Maharashtra during next 48 hours.

Yesterday’s depression over east Madhya Pradesh and neighbourhood moved westward and lay centred at 0830 hours IST of today, the 08th July, 2007 over east Madhya Pradesh near Lat. 23.5N and Long 79.0E about 50 kms southeast of Sagar. It is likely to move in a west-northwesterly direction and weaken gradually.
Under its influence, widespread rainfall with scattered heavy to very heavy falls and isolated extremely heavy fall (>25 cms) are likely over southwest Madhya Pradesh, Southeast Rajasthan and Gujarat region during next 48 hours. Isolated heavy to very heavy falls are also likely over Konkan & Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Saurashtra & Kutch, northwest Madhya Pradesh and southwest & northeast Rajasthan during the same period.
