Happy new year to everyone guys!!

I wonder if it would have depended on the time zone where the storm formed.

Happy New Year and Happy New Name List! 8-)

The NHC names all cyclones in the Atlantic with Universal Time (UTC). If a cyclone forms in the GOM on 20:30h in December 31 2023 but it is already 00:30 January 1 2024 in UTC... I think it would be considered as a tropical cyclone formed in 2024

So if it struck midnight in GMT and the storm formed in the EPAC would it be Aletta or Selma?

Since its 00z and not 23:59z, it would be named Aletta

A blend of TS and moderate strength hurricanes with a high percentage threatening land.

I've always bet on "I" named storms, and almost every year I am vindicated.

Isaac.

Now watch it be a weak TS out in the Atlantic or something this year, lol

My posts are my own personal opinion, defer to the National Hurricane Center (NHC) and other NOAA products for decision making during hurricane season.

Do you think Ernesto would pull an Ernie (2017)?

Every one will be a big one this year. We will have 30 Category 5 hurricanes in the Atlantic, all of which will need to be retired.

More realistically, I'll guess Isaac and Milton.

Best guess is the big ones this potentially busy season will be...
Gordon, Isaac, Joyce, Kirk, Leslie, Milton, Tony and even William!

Have a feeling Kirk, Milton & Tony could be the most powerful and one/two of these could be a C5 :firedevil:

Early season surprise from Ernesto (more specifically into Kiawah Island)
Isaac
Nadine
Tony
Valerie
And last, but not least, a CCC.

Thank you for reminding me the aux list exists  lord knows we might need it this year. Fell just a storm short back in 2021 (would have easily exhausted the regular list had Oct and Nov hadn't been so dead)

I'm still considering what I believe will be 2024's strongest hurricanes, but think I may have a bead on some of the upcoming seasons notable Tropical cyclones and an increased concern regarding Florida.

The early season will conclude following when Debby does Dallas (oops, meant Corpus Christi).

Otherwise, I think there will be several impacting the Sunshine State.
Milton will threaten Milton
Sara will threaten Lee (County)
Patty may "karaoke on over" to Labelle
and I expect both (Captain) Kirk and William (Shatner) to strike The Space Coast with shields down and "Phasers set to stun".
