#1 Postby senorpepr » Thu Jan 08, 2004 5:30 am

Huambo (Angola Press Agency/Luanda) --

At least fifteen people were killed and 336 families left homeless, following heavy rains hit the district of Caála, 23 kms west of Huambo city, from November to December of 2003.

In declarations given on Wednesday to Angop, the municipal administrator of Caála, Alexandre Gabriel explained that the communes of Catata and Calenga, with 180 and 111 houses destroyed, are the areas mostly hit by the bad weather.

Mr Gabriel added that the lack of food and other essential goods is already affecting the displaced families, most of them recently returned to their zones of origin.

The heavy rains which occur daily in central Huambo province have already displaced about 127 families in the districts of Bailundo and Mungo.
