Read this article a few times last few days before i registered. Thanks for the information and the updates. Didnt knew there was a possible link between solaractivity and earthquakes/volcanoes.

What about the recent volcanic activity near MtCleveland (Alaska) ?
(Couldnt find a topic yet, dunno if I can open one as a newbie and exactly where to place it. Still trying to find my way on the forum)

EARTHQUAKE SUMMARY FOR AUGUST 04, 2011

A strong earthquake occurred today in the central Kuril Islands with M 6.3. There were no immediate reports of damage or felt effects from this remote earthquake. The Kuril Islands have been relatively quiet in recent years while the area to the south off Honshu, Japan has been very active. This is the largest earthquake in the Kuril Islands region in more than two years since an M 6.6 on April 18, 2009. That event was the last strong aftershock of the M 7.4 which occurred in the Kurils on January 15, 2009 about 200 km to the south of today's epicenter. The occurrence of the Kuril Islands earthquake at this time may represent a return to more “typical” seismicity in the region of Japan and the Kuril Islands or may be a part of the pattern we have discussed over the past three days which has included strong earthquakes near 140-150 degrees East longitude triggered by a strong solar flare while this longitude band was directly subsolar. This was reinforced by a second strong flare of M9.3 this morning while this region was near subsolar.

SWPC storm to strong storm conditions today and for the next three days. There is a chance for a major solar event in the next several days. This would enhance the geomagnetic field and subsequent associated seismicity. Solar activity is expected to be high with the possibility of a strong solar event in the next three days. A strong M 9.3 solar flare occurred today (August 4) around 04:00 UT. Areas which were antisolar (at midnight) at the time of this flare included northern Argentina and Puerto Rico (both at 67 west longitude) while those which were subsolar include Taiwan and Sumatra, Indonesia. These regions all showed increased seismicity in the hours following this strong solar flare. The strong coming storm conditions in the geomagnetic field may bring on renewed global seismicity including the possibility of a major earthquake. Expected magnitudes for the largest events are increased by 20% over those previously estimated. The strongest activity is most likely to occur today and on August 9-10 at high latitudes and at 10-15 degrees from the geomagnetic equator. Such storms also often trigger volcanic episodes which are often delayed by about a week as the pressure in magma chambers builds up.

Also, Iceland is very unstable and Katla, Hekla, or other volcanoes could erupt.

Canary Islands is also having a huge swarm outburst under El Hierro volcano.

Cleveland is now code orange.

OLR anomalies can be an indicator of a pending quake.

Look for dark green areas that are associated with unstable faults in the first graphic or dark-red areas in the second graphic.

This phenomena has been documented with the 3/11 Japan quake and published under peer-review.

I am particularly concerned about the area around Puerto Rico, DR, and the VI Islands.

Dunno if there is a separate volcanotopic? Havent found it yet, but still looking into this site and how to use it :P Anyway, it's fascinating to follow and watch closely.
Dont know what to think about El Hierro yet, it sure is a swarm but doesnt look too much at this moment. Katla is rumbling for a while, but seems to calm down, as did Hekla.
Cleveland is getting more active, so is Krakatau, Etna, Stromboli and the one in Chili is still spewing ash.

So will this activity affect the heart of the hurricane season?(August 15th-October 15th)
And any possible date range on when the possible earthquake close to DR,PR and VI will occur?

Usually when the solar winds get below 350 km/sec after recovering from a speed stream is when a quake can be triggered.

Looks like the CME's are hitting the magnetosphere now.

Starting to see some Ultra-Low Frequency (ULF) waves in the ionosphere.

ULF waves penetrate ground and directly trigger faults.

GEOMAGNETIC STORM IN PROGRESS:

A major geomagnetic storm is in progress following the impact of a CME on August 5th around 1800 UT. Sky watchers at all latitudes should be alert for auroras after nightfall. Tip: the best hours for aurora sightings are usually around local midnight.

Analysts at the Goddard Space Weather Lab say that the CME impact may have strongly compressed Earth's magnetic field, directly exposing satellites in geosynchronous orbit to solar wind plasma. Stay tuned for updates on this aspect of the storm.

So that will mean a possible earthquake in a week or two around DR,PR and VI?(Sorry if I'm struggling with the more technical aspects of it).

Its possible. The area is very unstable with many swarms.

Here is a discussion a couple days ago from a very knowledgeable blogger.

http://www.earthquakesummary.info/

August 4 represent the 65th anniversary of the last great earthquake on the Puerto Rico Trench – an M 8.1 on August 4, 1946. This area is sensitive to earthquake triggering from hurricanes and the larger events in the area are generally during Hurricane season. Hurricane Emily is currently centered over Haiti where the strong rains and winds could do extensive damage to the local population which is still living in tents following the destructive earthquake in Haiti of January, 2010 which killed hundreds of thousands and left millions homeless. We expect that since the normal interevent time between great earthquakes in the area is 30-40 years, another great earthquake is considerably overdue in this region. Seismicity in the area today continued at relatively high levels.

I have not looked at the correlation but I hope you are wrong as this Solar Max is already showing signs of being the strongest in a long time.

Thanks.
So how do you see the solar activity affecting the heart of the Hurricane Season?(August 15th-October 15th)
Do you foresee all of the hyperactive predictions failing?:)

That is a hard question to answer since solar activity is unpredictable.

It was interesting to see the correlation of x-ray flares and the modulation of Emily's strength.

She strengthened at night when sun was on the opposite side of the earth which had minimized ionospheric heating over her.

During the day, she weakened when the ionosphere was hotter and abnormally so due to the addition of the x-ray flares.

It's so cool! How do you know all of this stuff?

Just started studying it since early this year.

I became serious when there was strong solar activity just before the 3/11 Japan quake.

Then I did research and found out there is a lot of literature out that correlates quakes & volcanic activity with solar disturbances.

Solar Watcher on Youtube has a lot of info and puts out timely updates:

Have you been looking into this as well?

No, not really, but I find it interesting and I enjoy reading your posts.
