August 2023 ended up like this for the Austin area per the NWS:

* Warmest August on record for the airport (KAUS) and 9th driest August on record

* 2nd warmest August on record for Camp Mabry (KATT) and 12th driest August on record.

Now, I'll be curious to see how they average out the summer months and if we ended up warmer than 2011.

All semantics. Real life it was hot all the same. It's a few hundredths of a difference. The fact we have back to back years exceptionally hot summers, it's not a once a 50year thing anymore.

It's not semantics, scientifically or statistically. It's tenths of a degree, not hundreths according to the NWS's own rounding procedures.

The airport climate record is 40% shorter than Camp Mabry's (72 versus 120 years). By daily high temperature at the airport, 2023 was 0.6° cooler than 2011. And by daily low temperature, 2023 tied for 14th warmest on record, with 2011 tied for 49th warmest on record.

Austin Camp Mabry had its hottest summer on record by daily low temperature and second–hottest by daily high temperature (0.2° cooler than 2011).

Ok. I'm happy that the Sooners managed to squeak out a win today. They're scheduling mighty non-conference opponents these days. Not like the 70s when I attended OU and saw them routinely embarrass the Utah States of the world 65-0. The wishbone was king. Climate change ruined it.
