Texas Summer 2022
Well, here it is, Wxman57’s favorite thread of the year, the official Texas Summer 2022 thread. We’ll move over here next week on June 1st.
Hopefully, our discussions will include some summer rainfall for Texas, very little tropical trouble, not many 100 degree days, and an early taste of fall.
Have a good Memorial Day weekend everyone. And many thanks to those who paid the ultimate price for our nation’s freedom.

12z GFS would be big for the Panhandle and West Texas. However, the Central Texas drought hole would live on...

That area has a higher risk and tendency to go into a drought, something like this would really break it.

I would yawn but if I do that, it will no doubt flood later this summer. I know how the weather works in my region. Haha!

Nothing extraordinary on either end. Not a terribly hot forecast and not terribly wet and cool either. Some decent days if you hit a good trough, if not it is above normal from feedback. I'll run a reanalysis of heights this spring after work.
Suspect that will be the theme of summer, elevated pressures inbetween trof/ridge.

That Central Texas drought hole needs to take a hit. June is typically a good month for that area. Can it deliver?

That's an interesting map. I would not have expected to see June listed as the wettest month for my area in NE TX. Usually there has been some heavy rain in early June but it really begins to shut off in that month from my recollection.

It’ll be nice if the 18z gfs verifies. NW flow keeps periodic rain chances in the mix for portions of Texas through the next week or so, followed by a weak tropical system landfalling in stx pushing moisture up into the state. I can dream, can’t I?

Re: Texas Summer 2022
Ended up with 3.9" of rain yesterday. That put us at 12.97" for May, which was the 2nd wettest. Interestingly enough the wettest was May 2008 at 13.1", another La Nina year.

Re: Texas Summer 2022
Still not great, but the GFS has consistently shown at least a bit more rain over the next couple of weeks for most of Texas except the southern 1/3 or so. Just gotta take what we can get at this point! I do at least have some chances for rain in the forecast, especially tonight and tomorrow. Maybe I'll get lucky.
