Texas Spring 2022

Here’s the official Texas Spring 2022 thread. Hopefully, our discussions will include some rain for Texas.

If there is another winter storm threat in March—and we’ve had several good North Texas snow events in March during the 21st Century—then such winter weather can be discussed back in the Texas Winter 2021-2022 thread.

Had another quick freeze this morning at my place. Briefly dipped below 32 around 6AM.

Happy March!

It's March baby, what happens in March stays in March  :cheesy:

Same here, had a slight heat index, I estimated the heat index to be up to 80

Yes! I can't wait! Been trying to warm up for weeks. 80s coming starting Friday. The name March just feels warmer than February. I can feel the heat coming.

I posted some of this data on the Wx infinity Forum this morning. Here are some of the climate model runs for March-May:

MARCH:

The CFS Monthly has trended drier and drier for the month of March for Texas with each consecutive run...

Image

The latest March run of the CanSIPS supports the CFS Monthly with drier anomalies for Texas for the month of March...

Image

APRIL:

The latest CFS Monthly runs continue the dry trend for the month of April for most of the state of Texas...

Image

Unfortunately, the latest CaNIPS run has trended drier for the month of April for most of the state of Texas as well, especially the NE portions...

Image

MAY:

Unfortunately, the latest CFS Monthly runs continue the dry trend for the month of May for most of the state of Texas...

Image

The latest CaNIPS run continues to show wetter anomalies for the Southern half of Texas during the month of May, but has trended slightly drier for the northern portions of the state, as compared to its previous runs:

@NbergWX — Long range GFS and ECMWF ensemble projections are in really good agreement.

End of next week -- some kind of cold shot of air could dip into the Heartland... with a potential storm in between that eastern US warmth and Great Plains chill.

Yes, it can still be *cold* in March.

I'm expecting Highs in the Upper 70s, some days could reach 80°F later this week

:spam: it should be noted we still average nearly 2 inches of snow in March up here so who knows. The GFS is showing other chances through mid March

There may be a brief period of a
light wintry mix across portions of northeast Oklahoma late
Sunday night into Monday morning as colder air filters into
the region.

However, the 50s for highs and 30s for lows next week will be nice and enjoyable.

Unfortunately I think this is going to be a Brown Summer, meaning that most vegetation will be brown excluding human and mechanical intervention.

Hot dry summers (less humidity) as you know are the summers of heat, 100 degree days and mid 80s to low 90s for lows. They also tend to bring about those 100+ degree stretches that just suck :firedevil: :sun:

I prefer this anomaly map for this Friday and the weekend. Taking Friday afternoon off to bike. Long rides over the weekend.

If you believe long range ENs and statistical forecasts then a below normal March is in store. Would tag well with the below normal Jan/Feb couplet. March 1965 is one of the coldest March for our region, it's been popping up here and there.

Oof, even Florida can't escape the cold.
